Chhod Aaye Hum Lyrics

Verse 1

We have abandoned those streets where lotuses from your feet would fall. It is here that you'd smile with pretty dimples, resembling whirlpools.

The arch of your waist was the support that led the river to turn. Even the crops would ripen after listening to your sweet laughter. We have left behind those streets.

WORD - Kanwal -Lotus, Bhanwar - Whirlpool, Fasal - Crops.

Gulzar describes the location, giving it human qualities. Thus emphasising how important these streets were to the men and women who lived there, once upon a time.

The Lotus referred to in the second line symbolises purity but it resides within muddy waters.  The people in these streets were pure but circumstances led them to take a different path.

Verse 2

Where the sunlight would escape from your heels, I've heard that evening sojourns on the entrance of your house these days.

There used to be nights entangled in your tresses and I used to find them on my pillow on some days. We've abandoned those streets.

WORD- Edi- Heels; Chaukhat- entrance of the house, Laton - Braids of hair.

What were once bright sunny days have now turned into gloomy evenings. The joy and life of these streets have disappeared.

Verse 3

This heart! is it lump of pain like the pieces of  a stone? Or is it a pit that lacks any bottom.

Maybe it is a lane that is shut down forever or maybe it is a fleet of a never ending moment. I try to burn it a million times but it never turns to ashes. We've abandoned those streets.

Words: Bhasm- Burn to ashes, Kuaan - Pit.

While the song started off on a hopeful note, remembering the good old days, it soon takes a painful turn. The memories were not pleasant and they cannot be forgotten anytime soon.
