Mayya Mayya Lyrics
You are the blue ocean and I am the shore abundant with sand. Embrace me, I’ve been thirsty for a long time. The dancer attempts to entice the protagonist.
Lyricist, Gulzar uses the imagery of the ocean and the shore to describe the emotion of desire.

Ek Kaudi Chaand Ki
Chaahe Toh Choom Le
Tu Todi Chaand Ki
Ek Chaand Ki Kashthi Mein

Tu Halke Halke Khenaa
Dariyaa Na Chalke
A trade of one night, using the moon as the currency. If you wish, you can kiss the broken moon for a bit.
We need to reach the other side of the shore during this moon lit night. You must row carefully, the river water musn't splash.
A reference to how nights spent with this woman are done in secrecy, without the knowledge of anybody.

Pick these rosy stars! Pick all of them. Chose among these bodies who hide behind the curtains, filled with pain.
FACT - Mayya is an Arabic word for "Water". The name of this song was inspired when AR Rahman heard a water seller in Hajj, Saudi Arabia shouting "Mayya Mayya".
It's not clear why the song is called Mayya (Water). A possible reference to the theme of desire and dreams - omnipresent in the movie as well.
When someone wishes for something so strongly, it almost becomes as important as water to them. They cannot live without it.
