Dohaz lyrics meaning

The bonds of pain run deep

The relationships fostered by pain are strong

The bonds of pain

Faiz, an influential left-wing intellectual and one of the most respected revolutionary Urdu poets, has penned the original words from which most stanzas in this song are borrowed. Gulzar has given shape to the song

Dohaz lyrics meaning

The bonds of pain run deep

Though this heart be penniless

At the sound of your name

Many comforters would show up (gladly)

The above lines could be interpreted in many ways. The poet says, many other people are fond of his lover, and would rush to console her if need be, however little they may have to offer.

In another interpretation the poet says his lover has broken so many hearts that if the poet mentioned his lover’s name, a lot of other hurt people would rush to console him, having suffered similarly and feeling connected over the same pain

Dohaz lyrics meaning

Coloring the flowers in different hues, let the maiden breeze of spring flow

Come to me; please do, so that the garden may get on with its daily business (of blooming)

TRIVIA-On the surface, the poem and the words of Faiz seem romantic and lovesick. However, the alternate undertone is socio-political in almost all of Faiz’s works, including this one. In the movie, it is used to depict the pain felt by those struck by acts of violence

Dohaz lyrics meaning

The cage mourns in sorrow, friends, do put in a word to the breeze

Somewhere, anywhere, for the love of God, there be a mention of the beloved today

The verse is a reflection of the vulnerability of a prisoner who is yearning to be released from the prison to be with his beloved. As this is not going to be anytime soon, he is pleading to the morning breeze, via his friends (perhaps because his own requests are not likely to be heeded), to bring from afar some whispers, about his beloved. Credits, Vijay

Dohaz lyrics meaning

Whatever I endured, endure I did

However, on our last eve together,

What I have endured cannot be undone

But on the eve of our separation

My teardrops have adorned your future

Come to me please do, so that the garden may get on with its daily business (of blooming)

TRIVIA- Vishal Bhardwaj, the director of the movie, is known for his collaborations with Gulzar, who opted for Vishals music in all his directorial ventures since Maachis (1996). In turn, he has provided lyrics to all of Vishals films- IMDB
